Sidcup to London Bridge in 20 minutes, and what else is nearby

A lot of buyers moving out of central London ask the same question first, before floor plans, before price, before anything else: how far is it, really. For Sidcup, the honest answer is not far at all.

The fast train is genuinely fast

Sidcup station runs Southeastern services to London Bridge every 15 minutes, with the fastest journey taking 20 minutes. That is not a marketing rounding, that is the real fastest time on the timetable. Add a brisk walk to the platform and you could plausibly be stepping off the train in London Bridge before your coffee's properly gone cold.

Sidcup sits in Travelcard Zone 5, but the neighbouring station at New Eltham is in Zone 4, one zone cheaper on the cap. Worth knowing if you're weighing up season ticket costs and don't mind the short hop to start from there instead.

Plenty to do without going anywhere near a train

The appeal of Sidcup was never just the commute. Sidcup High Street covers the day to day, and Bromley is a short trip away for a bigger shopping and dining fix. Bluewater is easily reachable by car for a proper shopping centre day out, and Chislehurst, with its caves and village feel, is practically on the doorstep. Sevenoaks is a bit further into Kent but makes a genuinely good day trip if you fancy a change of scenery.

A commuter town in the proper sense

Twenty minutes to London Bridge, a train every quarter of an hour, and a genuine choice of local towns for everything else, Sidcup ticks the boxes that actually matter once the novelty of a longer central London commute wears off. It is easy to see why so many people are trading a cramped flat in town for more space here and still being at their desk on time.
